Samer Seaports and Terminals was established in 1988, operating the ferry terminal of Riva Traiana in Trieste, Italy. In 2013, Türkiye’s largest shipping company, the main customer of the terminal, acquired the majority shares of the company from Samer & Co. Shipping SpA. In 2018, the Turkish shipping company that had the majority ownership of Samer Seaports & Terminals was acquired by DFDS, Denmark’s leading shipping and logistics company. Currently, DFDS holds 60% of the company’s shares, while Samer & Co. Shipping SpA retains 40%.
Leveraging extensive experience, Samer Seaports and Terminals delivers efficient and flexible terminal services, continuously adapting to the evolving demands of the logistics and intermodal transport system. The terminal covers 175,000 square meters and includes three operational berths equipped with ramps to accommodate three Ro-Ro vessels.
Samer Seaports and Terminals links Europe to Türkiye through round-trip sailings to Pendik Terminal (owned and operated by DFDS), Port of Martaş (located in the Marmara Ereğlisi area in Türkiye), and Mersin International Port (located in the South-Eastern region of Türkiye). These services are primarily designed to transport trailers between Europe and Türkiye.
Samer Seaports and Terminals provide terminal services for the weekly sailings between Italy and Egypt, which began in December 2024. By establishing a reliable and efficient service for the Trieste and Damietta freight ferry route established by DFDS, Samer Seaports and Terminals contribute to supporting the trade flows between Europe and North Africa, connecting communities, and bolstering local economies.
Samer Seaports and Terminals and DFDS also provide unique intermodal infrastructure that combines freight ferry routes with European railway connections. This includes direct railway links from the terminal to Saccanago in Italy, Duisburg, Bettembourg, Wels, and Cologne in Germany with weekly departures.
